The Ombuds Office is available to the University's faculty, staff, students, and others who are involved with the University, including but not limited to alumni, family members, applicants, patrons, etc., as the University Ombudsperson ("Ombuds") deems appropriate.

The Ombuds Office facilitates communication and assists individuals and entities in forging mutually acceptable pathways forward that are consistent with the Mission and Core Values of the University.

The Office of the University Ombudsperson at Mason operates in accordance with the International Ombudsman Association's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Communication with the Ombuds is confidential and off-the-record, meaning it does not serve as formal notice to the institution. This resource is intended to be informal: recording conversations is inappropriate and not permitted. Please note that privacy cannot be guaranteed in email communications. The Office is a purely voluntary resource established based on the principles of informality, neutrality, independence, and confidentiality as outlined in the Charter. By using the Office's services, individuals agree to abide by these principles and the Charter (available at ombuds.gmu.edu). They also agree not to contact the University Ombuds or any Office personnel to testify or produce documents related to confidential communications in any legal, administrative, or other proceedings.
